Are Hyperliquid whales long or short HYPE?

The broader monitored cohort currently shows $111.4M of HYPE longs and $247.3M of HYPE shorts. Raw notional overstates directional short exposure: the historically profitable, active entity cohort separates $169.2M of exposure with verified same-account spot offsets or separately evidenced carry or hedge context. Verified same-account spot covers $169.2M of that amount. The remaining $106.4M long versus $75.7M short across 15 unclassified entities is mixed under the published methodology gates. Over one hour, 3 of 48 comparable qualified wallets changed HYPE perp size by at least 1,000 HYPE. These figures describe a bounded sample, not market-wide positioning or a trade signal.

Source time, adjustment method, and sample caveat are included.

Raw versus adjusted

Why a short-heavy board can still be mixed

The first row covers the broader monitored cohort. The second covers historically profitable, active entities after exposure with verified same-account spot offsets or separately evidenced carry or hedge context is separated. Neither row represents the whole Hyperliquid market.

Which HYPE whale positions changed?

This feed ranks base-size changes among historically profitable, active wallets present in both complete samples. It does not infer spot trades, off-platform hedges, wallet intent, or positions outside the monitored cohort.

Does a large short prove bearish conviction?

No. A public perp short can hedge spot or off-platform exposure, receive funding, or belong to a broader book. HypeBasis subtracts only same-account spot that the official API verifies and keeps off-platform exposure unknown.

Does a larger HYPE position prove the wallet bought HYPE?

No. It proves that the visible HYPE perp size was larger at the current complete sample than at the saved baseline. It does not identify fills, spot trades, deposits, external hedges, or the wallet owner's intent.

Does a spot offset prove the strategy?

No. It verifies simultaneous on-platform spot coverage, not intent. The page calls it an offset, not a complete hedge, and does not infer continuing ownership outside the observed account.

Is this market-wide positioning?

No. The current-position board is a disclosed public leaderboard cohort. Missing wallets, linked accounts, off-platform balances, and private strategies can materially change the wider picture.

How to use it
This is a bounded public-wallet sample, not market-wide positioning or a trade signal. Wallet moves compare complete hourly samples and do not reveal off-platform balances, execution intent, or positions outside the cohort.
